BUILDING CUSTOM RODS
Creation of a custom built fishing rod begins with a consultation by phone or in person where you tell me how you fish, what depths, lines, weights, lures, techniques, and the species of fish. After the consultation I provide options regarding blanks, guides, handles, and other components that would best meet your needs. With guidance you will choose how your custom rod will be handcrafted.
CHOOSING A BLANK
Many blanks are available today. These include various grades of fiberglass, graphite, and composites. OB Custom Rods utilizes technically advanced, high performance blanks. Based on our consultation, I will suggest the most appropriate blank for you.
GUIDES
There have been numerous technical advances in guides. OB Custom Rods uses high quality, technique specific guides. These guides are available in different colors and materials. One of the most important factors in guide selection is the type of line you will be fishing.
HANDLES
The handle will be sized to your hand! Materials and components will be chosen based on your style of fishing and desired style. Handle materials include, high grade cork, EVA, foam, or a unibutt construction. The handle will be handcrafted and contoured to your grip.
ROD SET-UP
Each rod has its own spine. Each OB Custom rod is always built on that spine. A new concept approach is used for guide selection and placement. OB Custom rods utilizes the smallest and lightest guides appropriate for the blank, thus maintaining the properties of the blank. The blank will be set up, stress loaded and test cast to insure the proper placement of the guides and that there is no line slap.
